  • Module 2.2 Handwriting - 15 min

    Some interesting tips about posture, pencil grip and paper position, and basic information about handwriting formation. Pay special attention to the special way LEM teaches letter spacing and word spacing – it’s quite clever.

  • Module 2.3 Single Phonograms - 41 min

    Learning all the sounds of the single phonograms, including the five sounds of a, and four sounds for o and u. Did you also know that qu says two sounds? or x? Did you know y says 3 vowel and one consonant sound? Which sounds are voiced and unvoiced?

  • Module 2.4 Introduction to Multiple Phonograms - 40 mins

    33 phonograms – learn them by writing them and writing down example words. These take a bit of learning. You may want to watch this video twice! Don’t forget the free videos to practice phonogram sounds – two on the LEM phonics website.

  • Module 3.1 Testing and Accountability - 1 hour 7 min

    This module goes hand-in-hand with module 2.4 – it gives you an opportunity to test yourself on the multiple phonograms as we do a phonogram dictation test. There are also other testing tips and games to play to revise the single phonograms.

  • Module 3.2 Explanation Marks - 37 min

    How do you break words into syllables? What are the guidelines? How do you mark words to make them easier to remember when you are learning their spellings. What are the 6 reasons a word may end in silent e?

    This module begins with the Fun and Games – a brief demo of some phonogram games with Frances and her adult son. These games can easily be adapted to both school and home school environments.

    In this module we really get into the nitty gritty of spelling choices. How do we choose between c/k/ck for the ‘k’ sound? What do we use to represent ‘j’? When do words end in ‘dge’ and and when do we use ‘ge’? What about ch and tch?

  • Module 4.3 Multiple Phonogram Rules - 31 min

    Rules, rules and more rules…and a few guidelines. The 5 ways to represent ‘er’ have a few guidelines to help us remember which one to use for some common words. Which ‘er’ phonogram is used in numbers? Days of the week?
